Position: Foundation/Community Development Social Media Event Intern

Job Description: This position will report directly to the manager of community development/Foundation. The intern will be expected to own the social media reporting efforts of Blue Jackets Foundation/community Development events (facebook, twitter, etc…). The intern must take responsibility for the daily activities of identifying and maintaining social media sites while keeping the information provided to fans interesting, factual, and informative. Additionally, the intern will be expected to attend all Columbus Blue Jackets after-hours programs and any weekend special events. This internship will give the student first-hand experience as to how crucial the role is of leveraging advancing technology in the world of sports.
Responsibilities:
• Attend all Columbus Blue Jackets Foundation Events/Games and take accurate notes, pictures, and video to record the general experience.
• Regularly update social media sites with regards to status of Foundation events and the continuous promotion of these events.
• Promptly report features of Foundation events via pre-determined social media outlets.
• Upload commentary, photos, and facts about all Foundation events.
• Maintain professional Foundation web pages on social media sites such as Facebook and Twitter.
• Act as a liaison between general public, social media sites, and the Columbus Blue Jackets Foundation.
• Maintain tracking record and electronic database of all social media site entries.

Expectations:
• It is expected that the intern will create a schedule that is consistent and reliable relative to the Blue Jackets Foundation Event Schedule.
• It is expected that the intern will promote before the event and report after the event via social media outlets in a timely manner as determined by the Manager of Community Development.
• It is expected that the intern not miss more than 3 scheduled days of his/her internship and must have received permission in advance from his or her supervisor.
• It is expected that the intern will be flexible and agreeable to assisting other departments within the organization.
• It is expected that the intern will keep an electronic file on all key events and summarize each with complete notes documenting each aspect of the project. This will serve as the starting point from which the next intern will work.
• It is expected that the intern will have knowledge of creating and maintaining professional social web sites including multiple aspects of media transfer to these sites.
• It is expected that the intern will attend all weekly community development staff meetings (usually Wednesdays from 2-4pm)
Requirements:
• Ability to work independently to perform assigned tasks.
• Effective written and verbal communication skills.
• Intern will dress professionally.
• Ability to perform multiple tasks simultaneously and detail oriented.
• Basic knowledge of NHL and hockey.
• Creative computer skills (Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Excel, Photoshop (preferred), word, PowerPoint).
• Must be able to upload photos and videos to different social media.
• Ability to create and properly label albums and content.
• Gain support, followers, and friends for Fan Experience Pages.
• Possess the ability to communicate with social media sites in real time.
Required Hours: 25-30 Hours including weekly Community Development staff meetings and all Blue Jackets Foundation/community development events.
Additional Comments: The Community Development department was created to serve as the team’s liaison to the community through a variety of outreach programs in Franklin County and its contiguous counties. The Social Media Event Intern is an extension of this mission. This intern will serve as a key cog to providing crucial CBJ Foundation information before, during, and after events through various social media outlets. This intern must not just be a fan or user of Facebook and Twitter, but an owner of the process and a professional face of the CBJ Foundation and organization as a whole. The department will strive to place players, staff, and the mascot in the community to keep the team “top of mind” and make the public feel like part of the team through its grass roots efforts.
