Located along the primary public concourse in Nationwide Located along the primary public concourse in Nationwide Children’s Hospital’s new Clinical Expansion Facility, the Columbus Blue Jackets Foundation Family Resource Center is a place of respite and comfort for patients’ families. The Center provides a variety of services and amenities to ease the stress that naturally accompanies any hospital stay. We were at Children’s Hospital today for some testing on our daughter Samantha when I discovered the Blue Jackets Foundation room. Our daughter is now fourteen and we know a lot about the hospital from her past experiences there. She has had several problems since she was an infant. However, that is beside the point, we really just want to commend you for what you have offered to the many people in need of such an ideal setting for both children and adults. The CBJ room is quite a luxury for the many families that pass through those doors every day. We were only in today with out-patient issues but we would have given anything to have had these resources when we were there 24/7 for months on end. You deserve a big THANK YOU for your efforts.

Entrance
The entrance to the Columbus Blue Jackets Foundation Family Resource Center is easy to find with the Blue Jackets Foundation logo etched in the main glass window. Its location immediately adjacent to the main hospital cafeteria and close to the gift shop and chapel allows families to quickly access all major public areas of the building. Upon entering the space, guests find a medallion on the floor matching those found on the concourse at Nationwide Arena indicating the 13,200 foot distance to Center Ice.
For families wanting a change from cafeteria fare, a dedicated Donatos hotline phone is mounted near the receptionist desk for direct dial to the nearest store. All orders are delivered to the Columbus Blue Jackets Foundation Family Resource Center at a special discounted price.
The Blue Jackets’ community involvement is showcased through display showcases including team photos and hockey accessories, Hats For Heroes hats & history, Blue Jackets bike helmets, and a narrative explaining the mission of the Blue Jackets Foundation.
Blue Jackets Foundation partner Connell’s Maple Lee Flowers & Gifts deliver a fresh floral arrangement each week for the reception desk.
Lounge
The Columbus Blue Jackets Foundation Family Resource Center lounge is a relaxing space for families to unwind and enjoy some of the same comforts of home including television, movies, books, The Columbus Dispatch, magazines, music and an X-Box courtesy of Pepsi-Cola Bottling Company of Columbus.
The centerpiece of this space is a photo mosaic comprised of photos capturing the Blue Jackets both in action on off the ice in the community. Blue Jackets gear including helmet, gloves, puck and stick are mounted alongside the photo mosaic.
In addition, families can tune into FOX Sports Ohio for special viewing parties courtesy of Time Warner Cable to watch all televised Columbus Blue Jackets games.
Kitchen
The Columbus Blue Jackets Foundation Family Resource Center kitchen provides families with a café atmosphere to enjoy a homemade meal—or their Donatos pizza.
Pepsi-Cola products are featured in a custom-designed Blue Jackets vending machine, while Tim Hortons has provided a coffee brewer and unlimited Tim Hortons coffee for the families to enjoy
Library/Resource Center
Computers, internet and wireless access allow families to stay connected to loved ones as well as employers in the library. All computers feature a Blue Jackets screen saver when not is use while online resources, periodicals and other written materials help parents research and learn more about their child’s specific condition.
Exercise Center/Laundry/Shower
An exercise center, complete with Blue Jackets replica locker tags, is available for use by families visiting The Columbus Blue Jackets Foundation Family Resource Center in order to maintain their physical well being and provide stress relief.
Laundry and shower facilities are also available for families of children with extended stays.
Classrooms
Current Blue Jackets’ sponsored programs take place in The Columbus Blue Jackets Foundation Family Resource Center Classrooms including bike helmet distribution and Sibling Support classes.
Families going home with their child will take a class to learn how to use the equipment needed to properly care for their child.
