Curriculum Content
Skate your way through the school year with the Columbus Blue Jackets curriculum based lesson plans and activities. Lesson plans are subject specific and broken down into 4 segments to coincide with the game play in hockey: 1st Period, 2nd Period, 3rd Period, and overtime.
Language
Have your students test their reading, writing and comprehension skills with the language lesson plans. These include Stinger the mascot, the Columbus Blue Jackets players and the commemoration of the 150th
anniversary of the Civil War. Your students will hone their language skills through stories, comprehensive questions and participating in classroom-ready activities.
Social Studies
Your students will skate through history by learning about the Columbus Blue Jackets and the Civil War. They
can also become geography All-Stars by completing the lesson plans featuring Blue Jackets players R.J Umberger, and Fedor Tyutin.
Science
Using the technology behind ice rinks, the instruments used to measure the thickness of ice or the sharpness of skates, and other hockey related observations and technologies, your students will glide through forces of motion and the states of matter like a pro!
Physical Education
Do your students ever wonder what it takes to be a hockey player? See if your students have the ability by implementing these curriculum-based lesson plans. Your students will be asked to record their eating habits, learn about the US Food Pyramid, develop a meal plan, complete OhioHealth’s Jackets Fitness Challenge and much more!
Contests
In addition to the many curriculum activities available, Blue Jackets At School has exciting contests for teachers and students. Participating is easy! Any educator who emails info@BlueJacketsAtSchool.com and provides an outline of how they plan to use the program for the upcoming school year will be entered into a contest to win a Stinger school visit!

Feedback:
“This year I held the program for my entire school (k-8). I offered weekly prizes to all students. Our students and parents loved it! I talked CBJ all year with those students who are fans. Thanks!”
“Thank you for this incredible program which helps motivate my students to become lifelong readers!”
“This is a wonderful program for students!”
“Our school definitely wants to do this again and again! Thanks for doing this for our kids.”
“It’s an awesome program! Thanks for doing this for our students!”
"I am an elementary school teacher at Kidder Elementary in Brunswick, Ohio. I printed the Blue Jackets Fitness Challenge student packets and teacher direction of your website at the beginning of the school year and incorporated it into my PE class at the end of September. The challenge went over extremely well with the students...they were very competitive with themselves to do better each time. I stressed the importance of self improvement and not to worry about what the person next to them was doing! They loved the speed run the most and I hung a wall of fame above the gym office door with the fastest female and male in the school. I definitely will be doing the challenge with them each year."
